ODE TO PERCEPTION

  • Languages used: C#.

  • Role: Coded core gameplay such as the player character and level obstacles.

  • Project Accolade: Winner of the local game jam and was sent to Barcelona to be showcased at the Jam Today Fair.

This game was made during the game jam “Jam Today”. The theme was “Health” and after listening to some speaker at the event who were helping in inspiring the Jammers, My team and I decided to make a game that focused in improving peoples’ peripheral vision by making a game that forces the player to pay attention to a lot of the visual stimuli that occurs towards the edges of the screen while focusing on the player character who inhabits the centre of the screen. The game ended up being rather reminiscent of the bullet hell genre as the player weaves in and out of enemy fire. While I and the team I was working with wanted to make the game achieve this goal, we also wanted to make sure it was fun to actually play unlike a lot of games that fit the serious games genre. It was met with some rather positive reactions at the jam and ended up being the winner out of the the other 3 games at the jam and was sent to the Jam Today conference held in Barcelona in 2014.

I was the one of the programmers and as we had no artists in our team, I also took the time to produce some programmer artwork (basic shapes to the rescue). The game was created in Unity3D.
